If you have a baby and need more sleep... I have the answer.

I almost put this on my baby registry and didn't. How good could it possibly be? Well, let me tell you... it is my favorite product we have ever purchased.
I was so excited to take Hayes to Disney for his first birthday. Benson and I spent so much time planning and making this a trip fit for a one year old king. We got there with anticipation of a wonderful week... and then our pretty good sleeper turned into an absolute mess! Because he was across the room he could see us and this was apparently a recipe for disaster. Every hour he would wake up screaming. He has never shared a bed with us, so putting him in there wasn't an option. Not because we didn't try, but because when we did, it made it worse. He couldn't sleep with us and he couldn't sleep without us. So, here we were... the Disney zombies. Then, we left from that trip and went straight to the beach to meet the rest of the family for a week of "relaxation." We were SO excited to have a room that was big enough that Hayes couldn't see us from his bed and we could finally get some sleep. Well, being the wonderful beach condo that it was, our room had a wall of glass sliding doors so we could have a nice view. This would have been wonderful IF there were blackout curtains.. but night one we realized sleep was STILL not in our future. As soon as the first hint of light came through our window... our sweet son that normally sleeps until 8:30 or 9am was up and ready to go hours before anyone wants to be awake on vacation. After a week of 1 hour increments of sleep at Disney and a few days of early wake-ups at the beach, I sent Benson to the store to buy the biggest black trash bags he could find. We were desperate. So, for the next hour I taped black trash bags to every window and crack I could find.
We have all been there. Desperate for sleep, but when you are a parent, you are not the one in control of how much sleep you actually get. After we moved Hayes to his own room he was consistently sleeping 10-12 hours every night if not more. It was wonderful... until we traveled. If you know us at all... you know we are traveling all the time. I started to get where I dreaded traveling because I already knew I would spend most of the trip frustrated about not getting much sleep, while having to take care of a cranky toddler that also didn't get much sleep. This cycle continued until I finally broke down and ordered a SlumberPod. You guys!!! This changed our life.
This is a picture of a recent trip. Hayes is sound asleep in his SlumberPod and we could go on with whatever we wanted to do. As you can see, the lights of our room are on. We were able to get ready, watch tv, the big kids didn't have to be super quiet. It was amazing. AND he slept all night long!
As you can see, he is as sung as a bug in there!
The SlumberPod is made out of breathable fabric that creates a completely dark environment for them. It fits perfectly over their travel crib and breaks down so small that it would easily fit in carry on luggage. It even has a pocket for a baby monitor so you can see the baby on the inside. It has a few mesh pockets to help with air flow and we bought the SlumberPod with fan for a little extra air movement. We put his sound machine right on the outside to block out any extra noise... and we were all in Heaven. Good sleep is good for everyone.
This has been such a game changer for us, and if you are a traveling family, it is definitely worth the investment. HOWEVER, even if you are not a traveling family, this is still a wonderful purchase. When Hayes was a tiny baby he slept in a bassinet in our room. When he outgrew the bassinet, I wasn't ready to put him in his own room so we set up a travel crib. But, he was old enough that he was more alert. So, every time one of us would get up to go to the bathroom, Benson would snore, we would talk too loud, etc he would wake up. He started not sleeping well and I knew it was because he was still in our room, but I just wasn't ready for him to be across the house. The first night in his own room he slept 12 straight hours and has slept all night long ever since. We went from 3-4 wake-ups every night to none... instantly. I was so happy for sleep, but no matter how good the sleep is now, I still wouldn't be ready to put my tiny baby in another room. When we have another baby, I plan to use the SlumberPod for those months when they are old enough to be more alert, but too small for me to feel comfortable with them in their own room. This would be a wonderful solution for anyone looking for better sleep when you room share... traveling or not.
Sleep experts talk about how much better babies will sleep when they are in a dark environment with a sound machine running in the background and this is exactly what type of environment the SlumberPod creates.
My biggest fear was that he would get too hot. I have never noticed him feeling warm or sweating after sleeping in there, but to be safe, we use the fan that we purchased with it and we also do not put him in his sleep sack. I also didn't want him to get scared, so, I usually lay him down and then come back and zip it up once he has fallen asleep. Hayes has been laying down awake and putting himself to sleep from the time he was about 8 weeks old, so, it doesn't really bother him to be in there and put himself to sleep. But, if you are someone that rocks a baby to sleep it would be super simple to transfer them to the travel crib once they are asleep and zip it right up.
This has been a purchase that I wish I made super early on. I think about all the nights we were up simply because WE were waking him up. Or all the trips that I barely remember because I was so exhausted. This has been a miracle worker, and based on the reviews, I am not the only one that feels that way!
If you are looking for a nice gift to get an expecting mom, this would be perfect! It is something that most people would never think to get for themselves, but once they have it, they can't live without it! It would also be great to keep at grandma's house, too!
So.. here's the miracle product links one more time...
